Lighting Basics for Photography

This is a 4-hour seminar on the technical aspects of lighting. This seminar is for the photographer who is already comfortable operating their DSLR in manual mode, and is ready to enter the realm of creative lighting control. The class will be a mix of lecture and hands-on, working with lighting equipment. You will be introduced to constant and flash/strobe lighting sources; lighting equipment components such as stands, triggers and wireless controllers, and light modifiers; 1-, 2-, and 3-light lighting configurations; lighting angles; determining and setting correct exposures for constant and flash lighting, including light meters, and the digital exposure/white balance target and use of the histogram; and white balance. We will also have an in depth discussion on speedlights. Students should bring their DSLR, a memory card, and any lighting equipment they may wish to.
