River of Painted Birds
Cristina Galeano,Marisa Bernotti and Milagros Espina
September 6th - 27th
Exhibition Statement:
We are three female visual artists from the city of Dolores, we live in the rural environment of the department of Soriano in Uruguay. We work collectively to promote art to and from our community. We do this through group exhibitions, supporting individual initiatives of members of the collective, responding to cultural events in the city and giving support to artists who come to Dolores.
It is important for us to visit schools, high schools, as well as open our studios to visitors. Regarding the Artistic Invasion Collective exhibitions, we show individual work working on the theme collectively. Currently we have been experiencing the creation of collective work. We are interested in topics such as nature, emotions, imagination, our culture and women. We combine our exhibitions with other arts so we invite writers, musicians and even other visual artists to be part of our proposals.

She created the El Vitral Cultural Center in 2002, a space dedicated to offering courses in plastic arts, crafts and languages and holding cultural events, exhibitions, book presentations, talks, photographic exhibitions, and all types of events linked to cultural dissemination in the city. In 2006 she presided over the Dolores Municipal Culture Commission.
Currently, she continues to teach painting classes for children, adolescents and adults in her new workshop, but now more dedicated to her own artistic work and the investigation of new forms of expression.
Marisa Bernotti
Marisa Bernotti was born in Montevideo in 1978, but has lived most of her life in the rural town of Dolores, in the department of Soriano. Always in the countryside, at the same geographical point. Bernotti has a degree in Economics, has studied Graphic Design and has published children's books.
Her work is inspired by a rich history, from indigenous peoples, Latin American culture and European artistic traditions such as Cubism, to current problems with societies and capitalism.
She recreates everything with her own imagination using the color of the land where she was born, raised and lives, Uruguay, South America. Bernotti works on canvases, papers, books, textiles, objects, designs puppets and performs. She is involved with the international interdisciplinary artist collectives I found U and Teleportal Gallery.
Milagros Espina
María de los Milagros Espina Balbuena was born in Cardona in 1960. She has lived in Dolores for 40 years where she raised her family. She is a teacher of cutting and sewing at the Ballestrino Institute of Montevideo. She currently runs her own craft business.
About her art practice Milagros tells us: “Since I can remember I have loved colors, painting and drawing. I began my search among fabrics, threads, wool and paints. I researched decorative painting, folders, card making, leather crafts, embroidery and fabrics. Twelve years ago I arrived in the world of oil painting and behind the scenes in ‘El Vitral’ directed by Cristina Galeano. There I found my ‘abstract’ style in which I can express my creativity from the heart. Between emotions and mysticism. I use several techniques and an extensive list of materials on the canvases that I prepare myself.”
The opening reception for this exhibition will be September 6th, 5-8 p.m.
The work will be on view September 6th - 27th.
